Mistaken Identity

by Mark Burrs

For a friend after a case of mistaken identity.

I do believe I've seen your face
and the name by which your called
rings familiar to my hearing
spawns a puzzle to be solved

You really look like so and so
the famous whats-the-thing
that tours the world for all the fans
and the glimmer that it brings.

I'm sure I'm not mistaken
I'm sure I can't be wrong
I'm sure I've weighed in all the facts
Except of course for those that didn't fit but were added anyway to complete the picture.

I think that I misheard you
for I'd swear that you did say
that I have been mistaken
that my thoughts on this did stray

But if it's true your not the one
of whom I took you for
then why would you mislead your fans
to whom on you adore?
