Walls

by Mark Burrs

Often we only let people see what we want them to see. The idea of removing our mask or letting the protective walls down is scary to most of us. We do not like to be volnuerable. We constantly are evaluating how much real stuff we let others see.
Can I take my walls down?
In here no one can see
the me that feels stuck in a box
that's struggling to break free.

Can I take my walls down?
I scream but no one hears
no louder than a whisper
it's muffled by my fears.

Can I take my walls down?
It's comfortable but sad
Oh never-mind, I guess I'm fine
in here it's not so bad.
